When a criminal gang steals millions of dollars worth of jewellery in a series of raids across Europe, an insurance company hires detective Tony Driscoll to track them down and recover the stolen haul. Acting on a tip-off from Interpol that the merchandise is being transported from Marseilles to the Greek island of Rhodes by ship, Driscoll attempts to infiltrate the gang and discover who the real mastermind is behind the operation…
An Italian-Greek co-production, director Massimo Castellani appears to have cut his teeth as a fairly prominent assistant director for a very short five year period (1965-70) working with such notable directors as Lucio Fulci (One On Top of the Other), Luigi Magni, Marcello Fondato (The Protagonists) and Mauro Bolognini (Arabella). His only outing as a director, Web of Deception appears to have ended his film career rather abruptly in 1971. From a cursory web trawl, he appears to have moved into theatre/opera production hosting some events in Civitavecchia, and organising a retrospective for director Luigi Magni.
