The Killers/Gli Uccisori (1977)

Stephen and Anne head deep into the Venezuelan jungle to find Anne’s brother who has been falsely accused of murder. Enlisting the help of an expert guide, they eventually make it to Buenavista, a seedy establishment frequented by desperados and various other unsavoury characters…

Set almost entirely in a shack, The Killers is clearly a very low budget affair with locations very obviously on the outskirts of Rome standing in for Venezuela. The exteriors of the shacks and huts were probably filmed in Gordon Mitchell’s western village, which was no doubt falling apart by this time, and the waterfall seen near the end has been identified as the cascate di Monte Gelato.

Some of the (frequent) animal stock footage is apparently taken from La Grande Savana (1959) directed by Elia Marcelli – Director Fabrizio Taglioni and Elia Marcelli had previously worked together on Settimo Parallelo: Tierra Brava (1961), a Venezuela/Italy co-produced mondo movie.
